Description
In the early 1970s, Noel de Caprio, founder of Nolle, was the first person to conceptualize the idea of a day spa. Noel was apioneer and innovator who came up with the idea of a modern-day spa.Noel had the idea to introduce European-style spa services to her local clientele in Connecticut.
In 1960, Noel was one of four partners that operated an expensive salon at 976 High Ridge Road in Stamford, Connecticut. The address of the establishment was 976 High Ridge Road. It was known by the acronym HRH, which stands for Her Royal Highness. The first day spa was a hybrid establishment that offered both standard salon services and spa treatments. Noel came up with a concept that she termed a Day of Beauty, which was a service package that combined traditional beauty treatments like hair and nail care with more unique options like facials and massages.
The Day was an instant successwith her current customers, and after a great review emerged in the New York Times about this latest event, it became a sensation with a larger audience as well. Because of the successful and rising popularity ofspa days, the Gillette Corporation took noticed, and decided to capitalize on this beauty trend. In 1982, Nolle and Gillette entered into a strategic collaboration arrangement with the intention of opening Nolle Spas throughout the United States. With the opening of two of the new businesses, one in Atlanta, Georgia, and another in Bethesda, Maryland, and the forthcoming opening of a third in Eastchester, New York. Noelle continues to be nationally recognized as an industry leader, and noted and nationally recognized as the first to introduce the idea, day spa.
